avalanche - Lauren Poplock
the earth keeps what we leave behind.
so many quiet regrets, buried deep in the stone.
pressed into the dark crevices where
the light never reaches.
today, the rain breaks open the sleeping dirt,
softening the places we thought would stay buried.
the heavy hills let go, sliding slowly.
even the earth has grown tired of holding us.
