Guidelines and Nominations

We nominate for the Pushcart prize, Best of the Net, Best Small Fiction, and Best Micro-fiction. All published pieces are also considered for our annual "Best of" anthology. Depending on publication volume and themes of published work, select submissions may be included in other Rivener issues and anthologies.

No contests or themed issues are currently open.


We do not accept AI-generated work or work that includes hate speech, gratuitous violence, or erotica.

Simultaneous submissions and previously published works are permitted.

We respond to all submissions within 48 hours.

We are always open for general submissions and publish on a rolling basis. By submitting to Rivener Literary, you acknowledge that your work may be included in our "Best of" yearly anthology.

If your piece has not been previously published, Rivener Literary asks for First Serial Rights upon publication. All rights revert back to the author upon publication. We kindly ask that you credit us as the first place of publication if the piece is later published elsewhere.
